Welcome
Welcome to ihw 2024
Dear Colleagues and Friends,
Come and join us in Portland, Oregon for the 48th International Herpesvirus Workshop! Big city excitement and small-town charm make Portland known as "the City of Roses", one of the favorite destinations on the West Coast of the USA. Portland is situated approximately 70 miles from the Pacific Ocean in a magnificent setting between the sparkling waters of the Columbia and Willamette Rivers. Portland's historic old town, galleries and museums, and Saturday Market will entertain you! Also, Portland is just a short distance from Willamette valley wineries, skiing at Timberline Lodge and all of the excitement and beauty of Oregon's spectacular ocean beaches.
The City of Roses was built with walking in mind. The short blocks, combined with public art and old-fashioned statuary, fountains, bridges and parks offer opportunities for leisure and contemplation for casual strollers and fitness fanatics alike. Within a few blocks of the conference venue, there are great restaurants, unique bars, food trucks, microbreweries, and interesting shopping options.
Besides the splendid location, you will enjoy an outstanding scientific program with presentations from the world’s leading herpes virologists. Lectures will cover diverse topics from basic science to translational research; while the poster sessions will give you the chance to engage in casual conversation with other scientists about topics that interest you. Our beloved Herpetic Legion group will perform at a local Portland venue and will energize the good vibes of the conference with one of their amazing performances.
We will offer plenty of excursions to allow participants and families to enjoy Oregon’s lush Willamette Valley. Come early and/or stay late, but plan to check out the beautiful Columbia Gorge waterfalls and wilderness trails, explore the beauty of Oregon’s Northern coast, hike in the Cascade Mountains, or, if you feel adventurous try a white-water rafting trip.
Maybe you are a fan of Portlandia or your curiosity has been piqued by the adage “Keep Portland Weird”. Either way, come to Portland and share with the herpesviruses research community your interesting findings. We promise you will not be disappointed!
